Generating Resilience and Possibility in These Challenging Times

June 18, 2020 | By The Pachamama Alliance

rp-newsResilience and Possibility in These Times is a series of online offerings that Pachamama Alliance began offering in March 2020 to support us all in staying connected to one another, to a vision for the future, and to the Spirit of life in these challenging times that has included webinars, workshops, rituals, and a major online summit on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

Staying Connected

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the global demonstrations for racial justice, people around the world are waking up to the reality that we absolutely must change the way society operates. Pachamama Alliance has always offered a vision of possibility for the future—an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, socially just human presence on this planet. At this moment, we have an opportunity to ask who we want to be.

The series began with Co-founders Bill and Lynne Twist hosting a Resilience and Possibility Conversation with Board Members Rev. Deborah Johnson and Kristin Walter. They have hosted seven conversations since then, spaces of learning and discovery that offer context and community to meet the current moment with resilience and possibility, including calls with Charles Eisenstein and Zach Bush MD, and a discussion with Rev. Johnson and Managing Director Mario Trigueros about Black Lives Matter and the Work of Pachamama Alliance.

Voices for the Earth

Pachamama Alliance convened the Voices for the Earth Summit on April 22, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. A star-studded lineup including Van Jones, Dolores Huerta, Paul Hawken, Annie Leonard, youth climate activists, indigenous teachers, and many more powerful speakers explored how we might come out of the pandemic ready to regenerate our planet and social institutions.

Sacred Space

The video retrospective below looks back at nine weeks of daily community Sacred Space rituals, 10-minute rituals hosted by staff and community members around the world that offered people a moment of calmness, and connection with one another and the Spirit of life. You can find full recordings of each one on the Resilience and Possibility in These Times page.

Workshops

The series has also included workshops that provide transformational tools that expand people’s capacity to meet the challenges and opportunities of these times, including Staying Centered in These Times and Taking Action in Response to COVID-19: A Living Systems Approach.

The Response

In total, more than 10,000 people participated live in these offerings. Here is what some of them have shared about their experiences:

"You are providing a unique space for all of us to generate ourselves in a way that is essential to well being and creating the future right now."

"We feel you there, and all you’re doing, and it makes a huge difference in keeping our/my active hope for the earth and for humanity alive and in keeping us all aware that we are not alone."

"Wonderful to be in this conversation! It nourishes my mind, my heart, and my soul."

"Thanks and (virtual) HUGS to all involved."

"Thanks Pachamama for your discussions on sustainability and resilience, both local and global, and your persistent and loving optimism."

This series will continue to evolve in response to the dynamic global situation. You can find upcoming opportunities to participate, as well as previous recordings, on the Resilience and Possibility in These Times page.
