23 Leaders Committed in the Ibero-American Region

October 09, 2014 | By Mylie Thompson

The second gathering of leaders from the Ibero-American region took place in Cuernavaca, Mexico in August 2014, leaving everyone feeling as if the universe had conspired to create a deep, fun and productive experience for the benefit of all life on the planet. Twenty three representatives from Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, México, Perú, the Colombian Muisca Chibcha nation and the Sápara community from Ecuador came together for two main events—a Training Leaders Weekend and a Leadership Gathering.

During the Training Leaders Weekend, participants were equipped to deliver Trainings of Facilitators of the Awakening the Dreamer Symposium. Delivered by Pachamama Alliance Program Developer, Tracy Apple; Erik Friend (México), and Beatriz Pineda (México), this event resulted in the commitment from each one of the 23 leaders to hosting facilitator trainings in their respective countries as a way to fulfill on the group’s vision: We are leaders committed to being global citizens. We constitute a web that supports the exchange of wisdom and experiences. We are apprentices who bridge indigenous nations and other communities. We call on all other citizens to be part of our initiative for global change. One Facilitator Training already happened in Chile in September, one is scheduled in Ecuador, two in Mexico and two in Colombia during 2014.

The second event, the Leadership Gathering, focused on bringing forth a sense of re-connection to the group and to the vision declared last year during the first gathering of this kind in Colombia, and on creating a regional strategic plan for the period 2015-2016. And, our shared mission was accomplished! With music, somatic experiences, acknowledgement of the sacred presence that guides us all, love and compassion, group activities, the space for every person to authentically be in the group, and a diverse group of leaders devoted to this work, the team reconnected and identified their next steps, which include the creation of a regional version of Up to Us, the development of a sustainable organizational regional model and the launching of a dedicated web space for the region, just to name a few.

Currently, the regional group is hard at work and meeting regularly to stay on track to fulfill the promises made in Mexico.

This set of events is a clear representation of heart, intuition, the feminine coming together with the mind, the industrial presence, the masculine; the ancient prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor. For that reason, the group has named itself, El Cóndor y el Águila (The Condor and the Eagle). More than ever we see what is possible when people come together as a community and as a region to deliver on our shared vision to bring forth an environmentally sustainable, socially just, and spiritually fulfilling human presence on the planet.
