Tools to Stay Awake and in Action

Facilitators in Vancouver, BC took a powerful second step of the ATD-CTD commitment in the past three years, and their BE THE CHANGE (BTC) program and materials are making their way into homes, offices and schools all over the world.

They now introduce “Action Circles” in the Where Do We Go From Here section of the Symposium, as a way to help people stay connected and become effective Agents of Change. They also offer an “Action Guide” that people use to support their personal practice of making sustainable, just and spiritual lifestyle changes.

“We have also found that community projects are a great way to connect people and keep Action Circles engaged,” reports BTC founder, Maureen Jack-LaCroix. So, in the latest edition of the Action Guide, actions are organized into Personal Practice, Educating & Influencing Others, and Group Projects”.

Adapt Be the Change Circles for Any Environment

Be The Change have three directions for programming: community, schools and the workplace, and they adapt their materials and the Symposium in order to work for each situation. Keeping the structural flow, but shortening the video segments, they have created a one-hour presentation based on the Symposium for workplace presentations and school assemblies.

Over 3,000 students experienced the ”Assembly-Symposium” in the past year. More than 600 students used the Student Action Guide in the classroom, and took over 6,000 personal actions for sustainability and social justice as a result.

Building a Global Movement

“We’re excited to announce that our colleague in Italy is bringing Be the Change to schools in Italy! We will partner up our Canadian schools with the Italian schools and students will experience first hand that this is truly a global movement underway” says Jack-LaCroix.
