Launching Clean Water and Sanitation Projects in the Rainforest

May 01, 2010 | By The Pachamama Alliance

Our Achuar partners have become highly aware of the direct link between environmental issues and the effects on the quality of life and basic health, particularly their most vulnerable population—children and babies. Two communities have chosen to partner with Jungle Mamas (see above article) on treatment of water as a top health-related priority, thus launching the clean water and sanitation projects this year. Several community meetings and educational workshops have been held to determine the best strategies to take on this priority, including building a pilot ecological dry toilet and rainwater encatchment systems, and they are now closer than ever to making potable water available to everyone.
