On December 10th - World Human Rights Day - over 100 organizations signed a letter of solidarity with our sister organization Fundación Pachamama, who had been shut down illegally and arbitrarily by the government on December 4th.

That same day we received word from the Nobel Women's Initiative that they too would stand in solidarity with Fundación Pachamama. In addition, they wrote and sent a letter to President Correa articulating their support for an NGO's right to disagree with the government's policies, and indigenous peoples' right to prior informed consent before oil exploration on their territory.

In their letter they state:

"Civil society has a legitimate right to disagree with the government's policies and to do so freely. We urge you to stop criminalizing the Fundación Pachamama by publicly accusing them of inciting violence and fomenting dissent. Pachamama's work has always been non-violent and in accordance with the rule of law."
