Reallocating Our Resources
The global Pachamama Alliance community came together with Co-founder Lynne Twist and Major Gifts Officer Sara Vetter for a discussion about navigating the commercialism of the holiday season while maintaining a commitment to an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, socially just human presence on this planet.
They spoke about “changing the climate” of commercialism and focusing on giving rather than consuming, infused with themes from their work at the Soul of Money Institute.
Lynne suggested giving gifts of time together for the holidays, and creating traditions that teach generosity, tenderness, and the power of community. Among other practical ideas, she shared that this holiday she is shopping for gifts in her home, choosing items that she has treasured and is ready to pass along to someone else.
Sara shared one of the Soul of Money Institute Principles, “what you appreciate, appreciates,” and how it applies not only to money, but to time, energy, and love. She reflected that coming together and spending time with loved ones this time of year makes everything seem brighter, and that it can be easy to get caught in a trap of consumption even though our fondest memories are often related to time spent together.
