Creating a Global Transition Through Interconnectedness
After two years of intense work and rapid expansion of the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream community in Mexico, there was a need to develop our interconnection with each other, the purpose of the symposium, and our own selves; as well as identify more clearly our role as a community in the global transition. This was the intention that led to the development of the deepening workshop in Mexico.
We spent the weekend sharing our own stories of why we were “here”(committed to this work), doing circular dances and toltec yoga, listening to a testimony of a leader of an activist movement against a terrible injustice committed against a Mexican community, and connecting with our fears and talents to do this work.
Celebrating Diversity in the ATD Community
We were in Ixixtlán, an ecovillage located near the city of Puebla, for 3 days. In that beautiful environment, 20 participants, most of them ATD facilitators, got the opportunity to live a collective experience, that allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of where they stand personally in relation to environmental sustainability, social justice and spiritual fulfillment.
The journey began by sharing why some of the assistants decided to participate in the workshop. While listening to these powerful stories, we realized the diversity and beauty of the group. The first day was mainly focused on our relationship with nature, and the ecovillage in a beautiful landscape, was the perfect space to enjoy that.
A Victory for San Salvador Atenco Activists: Change is Possible
The next day was an emotional roller coaster; focused on our personal relationship with social justice. The talk of the leader of the San Salvador Atenco activist group, that stood up to defend their lands and stopped the construction of a new airport that the federal government planned to create, was extremely powerful. We learned that this movement was a victory of the spirit, where the power of love for their ancestors lands lit the way even when everything seemed lost, and inspired others all around the world to respond to the call. We saw that change is possible, no matter how unreachable it may look, if people galvanize their will, get organized as a community, and focus on a just cause, they can’t be stopped.
Cultivating Spiritual Relationships
The final day was oriented to our spiritual relationship. We had a group meditation, burnt our fears, and painted our talents. These celebrations were some of the activities that helped us to give closure to all hard work of the past days.
Every one of us lived a deep experience. It’s not easy to make justice with a few words from everyone’s lessons and experience. It was an opportunity to connect with the hearth of people of diverse ages, gender and even nationalities and realize how we are living this period of change, and facing the challenges it encompasses. And of course, this helped us identify more clearly how we can assist the global transition, and get a glance of the sustainable, just, and spiritually fulfilling world that we can build.
