In the four years since the first Symposium in the spring of 2005, the number of trained facilitators around the world has nearly doubled every year. Currently there are more than 2000, about half of them outside of North America. In the last six months alone, there have been facilitator trainings in Mexico, Japan, Korea, China, The Phillippines, Malaysia, South Africa, and Ghana, to name only a few of the places.
A new format of the Symposium Facilitator Training can now be completed in as little as two days, which makes trainings easier for Community Groups to create and fill. This is another reason that the demand for trainings is increasing rapidly.
In order to meet this expanding demand for Facilitator Trainings, a new program to train a larger body of leaders for the Facilitator Trainings was created in August of 2009, and an invitation to the program was sent to the entire facilitator body. The first two trainings in this program were held in October and November, one on the East Coast of the United States (in Charlotte, North Carolina), and the second one on the West Coast (in San Anselmo, California). These two training weekends together introduced 47 people to the basic skills and qualities of leading trainings, and they will now be generating additional trainings and attending trainings as apprentice leaders while they build their skills and experience.
In these first two training weekends, there were four trainees from Canada, three from Mexico, and one from New Zealand. Additional trainings are currently being planned for Australia and Asia.
