Alec Loorz, global youth activist, received The Pachamama Alliance’s first Bob Curtis Memorial Scholarship award in recognition of his work around the world spreading a message of the urgent need to shift our relation to earth and the environment.

An Accomplished Young Leader

At the age of 12, Alec saw Al Gore’s movie, An Inconvenient Truth, and became the youngest presenter with The Climate Project. In his words, “That’s when I first realized that our current lifestyle threatens not only the well-being but the very survival of my entire generation and every generation to come.”

He founded Kids vs. Global Warming, and for the past five years has brought this message to hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Alec also was chosen to be the special guest speaker at Pachamama’s Annual Luncheon in November.

About the Scholarship

The Bob Curtis Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the leadership team of The Pachamama Alliance in 2010 to recognize the late Bob Curtis, and the invaluable contribution he made to The Pachamama Alliance as a Founding Board Member, as a major donor, as a counsel on business matters and as a friend.

The Scholarship will be awarded each year to an individual or individuals to participate in one of the programs of The Pachamama Alliance, or to use to forward the work of The Pachamama Alliance.

Alec Loorz, the 2011 recipient, used his award to join The Pachamama Alliance on a journey to the Amazon rainforest in August of 2011, a journey that he says “literally changed my life forever… I learned so many deep truths about the world and at the same time, I realized how much of it is still a mystery.”
