May Photo of the Month: Your Unsung Heroes

May 22, 2013 | By Cassie Stiftl

This month, in honor of the many holidays showing appreciation for brave and resilient people, we asked you to show us the people who make your communities a better place but often times have little credit - your unsung heroes.

We received many inspiring submissions. Thank you to everyone who participated this month! We can't wait to see what you offer up for our next photo of the month.

May's Selected Photo

"As I walk up the steps of the Embarcadero BART station during my morning commute, I can hear the soaring jazz notes from Don Cunningham's clarinet. He is there every morning without fail, playing for the thousands of people who pass through the station, lifting our spirits. Thank you, Don, for sharing your art and helping me start each morning on a beautiful note."

Next Month's Theme is: "Cultivation"

For next month's Photo of the Month, we ask: what is being cultivated in your garden? In the northern hemisphere, spring is on it's way out, and with summer comes lush gardens full of cheerful people and colorful produce!

Your garden doesn’t just grow beautiful and nutritious produce, it also cultivates relationships, new skills and strong communities. Show us what your garden has produced, and show others what’s possible!
