In honor of International Peace Day, the Awakening the Dreamer Team celebrates the creativity of the San Francisco Awakening the Dreamer Local Community Group to adapt the Symposium to speak to a wider audience and promote peace.

How the "Playshop" Emerged

Anna McGrath, the Community Coordinator of the San Francisco’s Awakening the Dreamer initiative, joined with Awakening the Dreamer facilitator Darla Romano to cook up a new variation on the ATD symposium: an hour and a half “Playshop.” Refining the program with Sami Sunchild, the founder of the Red Victorian Peace Center and Peace Coordinator Laurie Marshall, this new format was held on Fridays there from 6:30-8:00 pm. We are using four videos – the story of the Pachamama Alliance, Wombat, 4 Years Go, and The Power of a Stand, interspersed with conversations about what gift is alive and wanting to be given to the world by each participant. They begin and end the Playshops with music and song (harp, violin, singing). Their focus is to support people in their clarity about what they want to be, or are already doing, to make a better world.

When and Where to get Involved

They hope to continue the Playshops on a regular basis, aiming for twice a month on Fridays from 6:30-8:00 pm. Participants are invited to have dinner at the Peace Café at the Red Victorian. This Peace Center and Bed & Breakfast has an international clientele and is a stop for many tourists. The goal is to spread the word about Awakening the Dreamer to people from around the world, and to those who live in the Bay Area. These playshops are also a great option to introduce the Symposium in a shorter format and then offer the option of participating in a full Symposium in another format including the once a month Symposiums in the Pachamama Alliance Office.
