The Symposium recently passed its four-year anniversary in March of this year. True to the intention of the Symposium to continually refine and update the content, over these four years the Symposium has gone through six major revisions. With a stronger audiovisual component, the current “Video Intensive Version,” or V-1, greatly increases the impact of the Symposium and the ease with which it can be delivered. More than 40,000 people have experienced the Symposium around the world, and to the best of our knowledge it has been offered in a minimum of 28 countries, most recently including Ghana, Benin, India, and the Philippines.
The growth of people trained to deliver the Symposium has been exponential — there were 44 trained facilitators at the end of 2005; 220 at the end of 2006; 600 at the end of 2007; and now there are more than 1400 in 26 countries. In the past year alone, there have been facilitator trainings in (besides the U.S.) Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Belgium, France, Argentina, and Ecuador—and the first training in Japan is scheduled for late May. There are 32 active Awakening the Dreamer community groups around the world—including Hong Kong and Quito.
The facilitator training is now being offered in a 1-1/2 day format called the “Basic Training” that makes it possible for much larger numbers of facilitators to just go out and “do it,” to borrow an advertising phrase. The first youth-oriented facilitator training will be held in New Mexico in June. New horizons are opening up with new formats of the Symposium. The “V-2” version of the Symposium is expected to be ready in late summer, with a goal of having it feel and be more global and less U.S.-centric, with a technological capacity for local content to be added by different countries or regions.
The Symposium has been translated completely by volunteers into Spanish and French and is currently being translated into Russian, Japanese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Arabic. And a technology team of both staff and volunteers is currently creating a set of internet-based resources that will expand the reach and impact of the Symposium greatly.
We’ll keep you posted on what gets created as the message of the Symposium makes its way around the globe, into countries, towns, villages, homes, and more than anything into the hearts of people the world over who are committed to bringing forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, socially just human presence on this planet.
