This summer in North America, Generation Waking Up (GenUp for short) is taking the WakeUp experience to a whole new level! The WakeUp has already proven to be a great success. Since its initial launch in June 2010, 125 young people have been trained as WakeUp facilitators and thousands have attended WakeUps throughout the United States and in other countries including Mexico, China, Germany, Kenya, India, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and Brazil.
A new creative twist
As more young people from diverse backgrounds become facilitators of the WakeUp and adapt it to fit their needs, the WakeUp is growing in its power and style. Facilitators are adding in more creative arts - live music, spoken word, dance, and theater - helping to make it a highly engaging experience for a wide range of audiences. As these experiments and innovations continue to grow, the GenUp team is working to gather them and make them available to everyone so the creativity and innovation can continue to flourish.
Making Generation Waking Up Accessible to all
It's clear the WakeUp is creating significant ripples, and we're committed to stepping it up even further! Esteban Duarte and Valerie Love, GenUp’s WakeUp Project Co-coordinators, are currently working to develop an updated version of the WakeUp that will be even more accessible, adaptable, and relevant to youth everywhere. Over the next few months, through the WakeUp Project, they will be creating an inspiring new video module to highlight the story of our generation - a generation with unique challenges and gifts, coming of age in a time of crisis, transition & opportunity. Along with new video content, will be adding in a new youthful soundtrack, youth narration, new group processes, and new facilitation scripts.
Calling out for support
To make all these exciting changes to the WakeUp possible, Generation Waking Up has launched an online fundraising campaign on Indiegogo.com to raise $15,000 by September 18th, 2011. We're calling upon all of our friends, family, community, and networks to help us "crowdsource" the resources needed to make this project happen. Visit the campaign page now!
