Pachamama Alliance Communities in Chengdu celebrate the completion of the Community Leadership Event

In December 2018, Pachamama Alliance Global Engagement Manager, Maisa Arias visited China with Awakening the Dreamer Training Leader Mary Klug and Pachamama Alliance Community organizer Erik Friend. Over the course of two weeks they co-hosted a series of workshops and trainings to support and enhance the work of Pachamama Alliance in China.

The first stop was in Chengdu where Maisa, Mary, and Erik facilitated a weekend workshop on community enhancement for the Hua Dao and the Joy For Love Chengdu Pachamama Communities. In four days, the Communities deepened their connection to the spiritual principles that founded Pachamama Alliance, and created a long-term action plan to sustain their ongoing efforts to shift the culture of the country to a sustainable, just, and fulfilling one.

In their commitment to bringing forth an environmentally sustainable, socially just, and spiritually fulfilling human presence, some members of the group have started a project making environmentally friendly personal care products while offering classes for others to do the same. The team also offers Awakening the Dreamer Symposiums, Facilitator Trainings, and Pachamama Alliance Drawdown Initiative events on a monthly (sometimes weekly) basis!

The visit to Chengdu concluded with an overflowing room of inspired individuals who attended the Introduction to Drawdown.

The second stop was the Schumi Learning Center (SLG) in Zhongshan—a transformative learning center near Hong Kong. Its three pillars are: Community living; Connection with self, others, and nature; and Right Livelihood. SLG is preparing a new generation for the ecological civilization by cultivating a dojo, or a field, where people can be alive fully, see the beauty within all existence, and experience personal transformation in a communal setting before they go out and create a better world for all.

Given the alignment between our two organizations, the team presented an all-day Awakening the Dreamer Symposium, and an all-day Introduction to Drawdown which were combined with walks around—and hands-on work at—the center’s farms, and energizing conversations about personal and systemic transformation, with a key focus on the role of women in bringing forth a harmonious human presence on the planet.

The third stop for part of the team was to Shenyang in the Northeast part of China to guide a new group through Awakening the Dreamer Facilitator Training. A new Pachamama Alliance Community is underway as a result of this event!

Simultaneously, another successful Facilitator Training was held in the Qing Huang Dao area!

The last stop was near Beijing  where the team presented Awakening the Dreamer to faculty and parents of the Ririxin alternative school. A partnership is deepening at Ririxin to expand our transformational programs and message throughout the school. A perfect example of the growing partnership is the session hosted for a small group of teachers on leadership and community development.
