Calling all citizens of Planet Earth! Solving the current environmental, social, and spiritual crises requires the voice and action of us all, as active citizens not passive consumers. The good news is each of us is waking up, you wouldn’t be reading this Newsletter if you weren’t, and millions of people are stepping into action together. Even better news, we are not alone.
The Need for Awake and Active Citizens
Our world needs us to be awake and active now more than ever. With the old dream so entrenched, governments seemingly unable to move decisively to address the problems it creates, and business still mandated to put profit first, the world needs active citizens like ALL OF US.
Why We Have Hope
If you’re thinking, "How could I actually make a meaningful difference?" Then consider what happened on January 25.
Thousands of everyday citizens took the streets of Egypt in protest of poverty, unemployment, and government corruption. Less than three weeks later, the sitting President of forty years, Hosni Mubarak stepped down.
This was no easy task. It took patience, courage, perseverance, and a space for citizens to connect, collaborate and amplify their individual efforts.
The Most Meaningful Opportunity in History
Lynne Twist reminds us in the Awakening the Dreamer (ATD) Symposium that we all have a part to play, "You don’t have a big role and you don’t have a small role, you just have your role. And if you play it, then your life will really have a kind of meaning that you’ve dreamt of."
The ATD Initiative provides a space for individuals to identify and express their role in changing the dream of the modern world. It is an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and work together to make the "impossible" changes we so greatly need become not only possible, but probable. And have fun while we do it!
The ATD Symposium is a tool designed to awaken individuals to the current state of our environment and our human family. But once awakened, we may find ourselves asking "now what?"
Together Anything is Possible
We propose that sustainable change is only achievable through community.
No matter how passionate we feel it sometimes seems we are alone in our efforts. Often even our own family members do not yet understand our concerns and efforts. Do not get discouraged.
Inspired by this program communities of like-minded citizens are popping up all over the world. Together, they lead Symposiums, organize special projects, and support each other in their personal expression for changing the dream of the modern world.
Find your local ATD community group. If there isn’t a community group near you, consider starting one! Gabrielle Sundra is the new Community Support & Expansion Manager. She is available to assist you in building and strengthening your local ATD community group so that your actions are united and your impact is maximized.
